Palacios highlights the important work of the greatest to unite and unite families (30/10/2012)

María Ángeles Palacios referred to Social Centres for the Elderly, as spaces for the development of activities that promote active aging.

"Spaces for learning and entertainment. Spaces to share their concerns and also to reflect on their needs," he added.

Major Awards 2012

Juan Tudela legs, better known as 'Uncle John Rita', the residence of San Diego Senior Lorca and the congregation 'Sisters of the Poor', received this year's Mayor's Awards 2012, which each year gives the Directorate General Institute on Aging Murciano Social Action (IMAS).

The jury found that 'Uncle John Rita', with 100 years of age, meets qualities sufficient to merit the Year Prize, for being one of the stalwarts of tradition and regional folklore having dedicated his life to the art of trovo and sight-reading, its dissemination and promotion, especially among the younger generation.

Meanwhile, the San Diego nursing homes in Lorca is a clear example of support for the elderly.

For the award, the jury appreciated the efforts of the Foundation San Diego on their workers, and society in general, so that users of the center maintain the best possible care during the time in which had to leave the premises, severely affected by the earthquake in Lorca May 2011.

The institution awarded this year on proposals from the municipalities has been the congregation 'Sisters of the Poor', which is customized with the institution of Cartagena.

An emotional ceremony

The awards ceremony, held at the General Archive of the Autonomous Region, was charged with emotion, especially when 'Uncle John Rita' took the stage to accept the award and thanked him with a makeshift letrillas, accompanied on guitar by Tomás García Martínez, a member of his gang.

The event included musical performances by the Choir of St. Helena Community Center Senior Caravaca de la Cruz and the Social Center of Coral Older Person Murcia I.
