[A January without Crews and Crews without January (16/01/2021)

Aledo is a land of traditions and also a land of musicians and musicians, who slip through the nooks and crannies of the network of narrow streets that make it up.

Anyone who knows Aledo and knows its people knows first-hand that music is part of the everyday life of the days, being an element that is magically present in every house.

These last few months everything is being different, the pandemic that is devastating us is taking away many things from our lives, especially in regard to social relationships.

If it has been difficult to understand a Christmas without going out into the streets to sing, to hang around the houses of friends and family, it is being more difficult for those who love the groups, the parrandas, trovos and aguilandos, this unusual month of January.

A January that as singular acts,Every weekend it collects Gang Encounters throughout the Spanish southeast.

Meetings, which many times bring together thousands of people, who have fun in the same way as our ancestors did, around a group of friends, a bottle of wine and some warm instruments. I recognize in myself that I lack that elf that runs through my entrails from December to February, that elf who continuously creates couplets and tries to surprise, amuse whoever wants to listen to them and also myself .

These months when there are no gang meetings, perhaps it takes us away from singing our ancestors, from remembering them and naming them with a smile on our lips, because they left us something very important, knowing how to have fun surrounded by friends, as did the grandparents of their grandparents, with those songs and those dances.

A time when girls and boys sat on a twine chair and next to a kitchen fire, they looked at their mothers in a cold room with plaster walls and wooden colañas, to learn to dance ,to learn to play and learn those songs that for centuries knew how to preserve by word of mouth. As every Sunday around San Antn, on January 17th the Aledo Gang Meeting should be held, to bring together people from different parts of the region to the sound of our traditional music.

This year we will not be able to celebrate this festival that has become a benchmark for lovers of traditions.

We will wait for everything to clear up, we will wait as our grandparents did when there was a storm outside and it was impossible to leave.

We will wait with one hand saddened by the circumstances that we have to live in and the other without stopping to set the rhythm of a malagueà ± a well "agreed", aware that the lyrics that today are rather sad, will become ½n happy, to sing around a group of friends with a bottle of wine and well-tempered instruments.
