Environment environmental assessment concludes Municipal General Management Plan of Aledo (21/01/2016)

The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment, has completed the environmental assessment of the General Municipal Management Plan of Aledo, covering about 50 square kilometers.

This procedure is an obligation under regulations aimed at planning tools that incorporate the environmental variable from the outset, through the analysis and selection of the technically viable alternatives and the establishment of measures to prevent, correct or compensate, where appropriate, the effects on the environment, as well as follow-up action.

The City of Aledo, which has already been notified of the decision of the Directorate General of Quality and Environmental Assessment, shall incorporate requirements for such a plan ahead of final approval by the competent body for urbanism series.

These are aspects of environmental quality, conservation of the environment and climate change.

The resolution is issued after hearing the sectoral reports from affected administrations and includes mapping information to identify areas of the municipality where the conditions must be incorporated indicating this resolution.

To ensure the environmental quality of the town, the resolution takes into account the Environmental Sustainability of the City and the regional zoning for air quality established in the plan to improve air quality.

It also indicates that should be available a clean point for the selective collection of waste produced in private homes as hazardous, albeit shared with other municipalities, to set the threshold at a recycling center for every 15,000 inhabitants.

Throughout the process of environmental assessment has analyzed the compatibility of planning proposals to the conservation of the natural environment, including assumptions as to equip protected areas and public forests in an urban system ensuring conservation, implement measures to preserve spaces protected by the Natura 2000 network and avoid the deterioration of the habitat types and species of Community interest in the town, according to reports issued during the process.

Measures on risk areas susceptible to forest fires and precautions are also included to reduce effects on cattle trails.

The rules of the Plan of Arrangement of Aledo must also incorporate a series of measures that would affect the new urban developments to prevent or mitigate the effects of climate change.

Next steps in the processing

This resolution is in the nature of mandatory report and must be considered by the council, which must incorporate its content into the overall plan and submit it to the regional authority with competence in planning for final approval.

Once completed processing and urban plan will be approved, the council has to make available the environmental agency, the authorities concerned and the public all information relating to environmental aspects.

He also informed of the measures taken to monitor the effects on the environment from its approval.
